Feminist Approach to Technology

  • Raised funds for multiple projects at FAT from organizations like Hewlett Packard Foundation, Ford Foundation, Mama Cash, Global Fund for Women, South Asian Funds for Women, American Jewish World Society and Oak Foundation.

  • Published FAT’s report on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education among girls in India. The report was to understand attrition of girls in these subjects in government schools in various cities (primary focus was New Delhi).

  • Organized advocacy for STEM reports with national and international level stakeholders in the fields of education, science, technology and women’s rights focusing on government schools.

  • Conducted and organized workshops for girls from socially and economically disadvantaged communities on relevant topics like gender, patriarchy, feminism, love, sexuality, negotiating feminist politics at home, self-sufficiency through inclusivity, and early and forced marriage (EFM) project.

  • Supervised and managed a fellowship project funded by South Asian Women’s Fund, by mentoring three young women fellows (from disadvantaged backgrounds) at FAT. The three fellows worked in their communities to advocate and empower women by using everyday technologies and conducted workshops on women’s rights.

  • Organized and managed sessions and workshops for FAT’s team by renowned women and feminists on themes of feminism, sexuality, sex education, human rights, violence against women, monitoring and evaluation, among various other topics.

  • Organised and managed a campaign where Indian youth formulated a manifesto called unManifesto funded by United Nations Populations Fund (UNFP).

  • Engaged in disseminating strategies through written and visual mediums, on various online and offline platforms, for the youth-led campaign unManifesto.

  • Published a narrative report for the United Nations Populations Fund for the unManifesto Campaign.

IT for Change

  • Published a baseline report for UN Women for the project on women using mobile technologies in rural Mysore, Karnataka.

  • Created a curriculum for a short-term course on IT for Development held in Manipal University.

  • Made a short film which was screened at a UN convention for women, in Bangkok, on everyday

  • technologies enabling women in communicating information in a rural setting.

  • Created a detailed technical report based on a situation analysis of Mysore for ‘Making Women's  Voices and Votes Count’ project. The report consisted of news reports on women’s engagement with technologies and their biases and struggles with it.

Fieldwork Experience

Conducted research in Banaras, North India, to study women’s lives and experiences of urbanism in this unique ancient religious city for my PhD dissertation.

Conducted fieldwork, for Feminist Approach to Technology, in 5 rural villages to gauge the situation of women and girls education in government schools. The focus was on women in tribal communities and their access to education.
